Weddings

For over 139 years, our heritage building, formerly a Methodist Church has been a place of worship and has hosted many weddings. The outside of the building was restored in 2021. It is a setting that is gracious and full of character for your wedding.

Here you can have a ceremony as formal or as intimate as you wish. The church can be decorated for your wedding with floral displays. These arrangements can be tailored to suit your needs.

Music for your ceremony can be played on our historic organ in traditional or modern styles, depending on your choice. If you wish to have your favourite songs or live music played during the service this can be easily arranged.

Your photographer will find the church an easy and accommodating environment in which to work.

Confetti or flower petals can be thrown outside the church at the foot of the steps.

There is a large hall next to the church with a kitchen. It is possible to arrange for light refreshments before or after the wedding.

Baptisms

The Uniting Church offers baptism both to those who wish to affirm their faith and Gods love, and to families wishing to have their children baptised.

Baptism links us to the church community, and for those who prefer, a thanksgiving (or blessing) of a child is also offered as an option.

SUPPORT

HUNGRY NO MORE PROGRAMS

What is HUNGRY NO MORE?

HUNGRY NO MORE (HNM) is a program where everyone is welcome without judgement. Some of us have problems with mental health issues, some of us still battle addictions, some of us have been in prison, and some of us are a bit lonely and want to make some friends. We know we can be ourselves and not be judged at HNM, and still have a good time together.

‘T@6’

Tea at Six is s free community meal for anyone. Its available every Sunday night at 6pm. The two-course meal is provided by volunteers from our local community.

If you are hungry, or homeless, lonely, or just want to come along…you are VERY welcome. It is a safe, supportive and welcoming place for between 50 to 60 people every week.

It is a great way to get to know each other, to enjoy a really good feed, and to get support or help if we need it. Churches, schools, community groups, along with some individuals, provide the free meal each week. We are very grateful to them.

Anyone and everyone are welcome, no bookings needed.

If you would like to volunteer and get involved, please give us a call

Community Kitchen Cafe

CK Café (Community Kitchen Café) in the Church hall. Wednesdays 10am to 1.30pm

The CK Café offers low-cost quality meals for all people to meet and connect.

Many people from the local community come regularly.  It is also a training facility for people seeking to extend their skill base, as we teach cooking, shopping and budgeting skills so as to improve participants confidence and social connections. It hopes to assist people towards connecting with further study, or work, paid or unpaid.

people to ‘take what you need, give what you can’.
We know that food items are gratefully appreciated by people who are living on low
incomes across the Adelaide Hills.

The Pantry is open Mondays from 10am to 12, Wednesdays from 10am to 2, Fridays 10am to 12 and Sundays 11am to 8pm

ALIVE@5 – Sunday nights at 5pm

Informal worship in the Hall at 5.00pm,

What IS ‘ALIVE@5′?

An informal and meaningful service, Alive@5, has gathered momentum.

We realised a couple of years ago that a number of us believed in God and wanted to go to church. But many felt uncomfortable in most other church services, so we started ‘ALIVE@5′ which is an informal church service at 5pm on Sundays in our church hall.

The thing we like about Alive@5 is that we learn that God has given us great value no matter what our problems, that God sees us first and foremost as people and doesn’t focus all His attention on our problems. What a relief! This has helped us to feel safe at HNM and to be relaxed, and to realise that people really do like us for who we are.

So come along and see for yourself…you are VERY welcome. We also have a group for your kids, so bring them along too.

We have a great music group that sings and plays modern songs, your welcome to join in if your musical or even if you are not!. We usually practise the songs at 4pm so we can sing at ‘Alive@5’ church…to help us worship God.

Some more facts about HUNGRY NO MORE:

HUNGRY NO MORE began at Mt Barker UC in February 2000, and has provided a safe, supportive and welcoming place for between 30 to 50 people every week, sharing a meal, T@6, together. Amazing volunteers have given their time, talent, and love, to serve God and some of the most vulnerable people in our community through the HNM ministry.

Over the years we have had the support of 5 local UC Churches, and Mt Barker Anglican Church, Mt Barker Baptist Church, Mt Barker Rotary Club, and many individuals and couples from our church and others such as Mt Barker AOG Church and Church of Christ. A local milkman donates milk and cream every week, and a local baker donates bread for the meal, and for people to take home.

Our prayer and vision is that HNM will continue to grow allowing all who participate the opportunity to receive the healing and saving grace of Jesus.

John 6:35 Jesus said, ‘I am the bread of life. He who comes to me will never go hungry…’
